Before Terry took his coaching certificate we always enjoyed very close and competitive games. Now, I feel lucky to take a game from him. Fortunately Terry's coaching is having a miraculous effect on my game. I have had much tennis coaching over the years from different coaches, however no coach has had such a dramatic effect in such a short space of time. Terry does not overload with information. His concise, focused and simple instruction allows for instant impact with no steps backwards to achieve ultimate steps forward. I now feel that with enough court hours, I will once again prove a challenging opponent to Terry - thanks entirely to his coaching methods.

Dear Terry

Thank you for our tennis lessons.

I have really learned a lot.. my serve for example is far more secure..and I am not losing my balance.

My forehand..yes..hitting more swing...and ball deeper...

I thought your enthusiasm for teaching..with such clear clarity refreshing...as I have used many coaches...I would recommend you to any..player..or novice who wishes to learn..or improve their game..

Regards

I am a beginner intermediate player and looking to improve my game. My lessons with Terry have been great! He loves life and has very positive energy.

We have for example worked on my forehand, backhand and gaining a better understanding of the game. Best of all each lesson ended with me feeling more motivated and excited for the next!

Highly recommended. —

’30/40 Tennis Academy‘ like a film called ‘Wimbledon‘ but during a global ‘Pandemic’! It was the end of May 2020 and our glorious government leaders had just started to let us out of the UK Lockdown! Jack, my son (13) was used to playing sport most days whether it was hockey, cricket, paddle boarding etc. With those governing words ‘social distancing‘ and ‘restrictive rules‘ being in place, Jacks energy and frustration depleted daily!

I had to find him a release and for many years I had played Tennis ‘on’ and ‘off’ while working as a personal trainer. One of my clients knew of a tennis coach that had just come back from living abroad, previously coaching in the Malaga area of Spain. So with jack having played around 6 muck-around games only of tennis in his life time, had his first lesson with Terry of ‘30-40’ Tennis Academy. Terry started with the basic techniques of tennis, strategically taking Jack through elementary ‘30-40’ academy programs and by the end of his first few lesson’s, we all started to see before our eyes Jack’s true potential! Terry for the next three months gave Jack multiple lessons, extending his structural programs and even introduced ‘court positioning/management‘ & ‘playing tactics’ causing positive progression in ‘confidence’ & therefore Jack’s ‘skills’ grew quickly.

As with all youngsters, there were days of ‘ups’ and ‘downs’, but Terry’s

patience and modern approach to tennis won over the day! The time had come with Jack enjoying his tennis so much, to play against players of his own age! A local tennis club was holding a ‘U 14’s’ tennis competition called the ‘Bob Farquhar’ Shield. So after just four months of lessons and playing tennis, Jack won three tennis matches to get into the final and with all things he had learnt and during a hot summer climate, he came out a final tournament set 6-1 “finals” Winner!

A “FAIRY TAIL” ENDING! Thank you ‘30-40’ Tennis Academy.

TJ

Simon Dunstan

(review about his son, TJ)

We saw Terry coaching someone else while we were on holiday in Torquay and booked a trial lesson for our 13-year-old son.  He had never had any formal coaching and would always run around a backhand placed ball to take it on his very loopy (open racket head) forehand, and he had never been shown a proper overhead serve.  He loved his first lesson and we ended up squeezing 5 lessons into our second week of holiday as he reacted so well to Terry’s teaching style.

Terry clearly described and demonstrated the different strokes and explained any mistakes TJ was making, repeatedly demonstrating the correct form until the information stuck.  Terry worked on TJ’s forehand, then introduced the backhand step by step, correcting any problems until TJ was confident to use it, then he broke the serve down and started TJ on a great path with a correct overhead serve.

TJ was so inspired by his time with Terry that he returned from the holiday keen to join a local tennis club and to continue to use his newfound skills.  Terry worked with us to recommend a racket that would last TJ for the next couple of years, and even suggested a website where we could purchase it.  We are now on a tour of local tennis clubs and courts so that TJ can continue playing as much as possible!

We cannot praise 30-40 Tennis Academy highly enough and would recommend them without hesitation.

TJ

Simon Dunston,  follow up review

Hi Terry

Testimonial as promised, follows on from previous.   Will do TripAdvisor later.

Following some initial training with Terry in Torquay our 13-year-old son TJ was keen to continue his tennis education and so we arranged for Terry to come and visit us in the Midlands and give him some intensive coaching.

TJ had 4 days of coaching, each day consisted of a two-hour coaching session in the morning and then another two-hour coaching session in the afternoon, followed by an hour of sparring so that he could put what he had learnt into practise.

Terry continued the work he had done on the backhand and serve to the point that his backhand is no longer the weakest link. He is also happy to serve correctly, he played a competitive/co-operative match and won 3-0, including 2 service games in which he refused to serve underarm!  Terry also introduced volleying and the overhead smash.  His drills helped TJ with his accuracy and court management and helped him to understand scoring in a tennis match.

With Terry’s help TJ’s tennis improved dramatically in his technique, accuracy and power.  He is now well on his way to becoming a good player.
